I am 36 weeks (and 3 days) pregnant with my first child. This morning I began feeling aches in my back like I am about to start my period. I don’t have sharp pains…there are no pains in my stomach and I feel fine other than that annoying aching sensation in my back. Is this pre-labor?

I had low back pain like that on and off from 35 weeks.
It is normal to get cramping in your back this late in pregnancy.
Your uterus could be beginning to contract mildly and you are only feeling it in your back. Mild contracting is probably doing little to change your cervix and get you into labor but these could lead to more significant contractions.

I found that if i kept myself well hydrated and walked around the low back cramping went away.
Next time you go to the doctor ask them to check your cervix to see if you are beginning to dilate.

The same thing happened to me last week except I was 34 weeks and a few days – I called my doc they had me go over to labor and delivery – they checked me for dilation, etc, and basically just said that its kind of like the Braxton Hicks contractions and i shouldn’t worry about it. I have had a back ache ever since. Ugh. Its almost over. Good luck

In some women yes. I know I have back labor but I am pregnant with my 3rd kiddo. For me the answer is Yes you might want to ask your ob. I am 37 weeks and will be 38 weeks Thursday. I have had a few braxton hix contractions already maybe you are getting ready to go in to labor. Either way take it easy and get a back rub if you can. That helps me. Good luck!

It is possible. Most women have Braxton-Hicks contractions throughout pregnancy, so you should have had them up to now.
Some people have back labor, so I guess I’d be a little concerned that it’s pre-term labor.
I could usually tell that I was in labor when the contractions I was having made me have to pee. so every 6 or 12 minutes, I’d go to the bathroom,a nd pee a little bit. After a few times, I’d think "That’s weird" then I’d finally catch on.
Of course, it could just be a bachache, because your center of gravity has changed so much.

This could actually BE labor. Back labor to be exact! Some women don’t have any labor pains in their stomach area – some have back labor. I did – I didn’t have any contractions up front at first, just in my back (and it’s a lot harder – sorry), anyways, time the aches – if they get closer together of progressively worse, contact your doctor. Let us know what the outcome is!
